At the 94th Academy Awards ceremony in March 2022 at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony, comic Chris Rock cracked a quip about Jada’s shaving head. Will was not a fan of the joke sitting down. He made his way to the stage and hit Chris during the live broadcast just minutes before he was awarded the Oscar because of his portrayal of King Richard. Will later apologized in a statement for his actions and then, just recently, he released the video in which he apologized for his conduct.
Willow 21-year-old Willow had been silent about the incident. Then, in an interview for Billboard, she revealed, “I see my whole family as being human, and I love and accept them for all their humanness.” She continued, “Because of the position that we’re in, our humanness sometimes isn’t accepted, and we’re expected to act in a way that isn’t conducive to a healthy human life and isn’t conducive to being honest.”
Will Smith, a member of the slap controversy, took to his Facebook account on July 29 to discuss the slap controversy. He also addressed some questions about the incident. In the post, he explained the actor began by responding to the question “Why didn’t you apologize to Chris Rock in the acceptance speech?” In the response, Smith said that he approached Rock and was not “ready to talk”. Smith said that the Men in Black star added, “I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you. My conduct was not acceptable and I will be there whenever you’re ready to discuss.”
He also said, “This point fogged out me. It’s all blurred. I’ve tried to contact Chris and the response received was that he’s not prepared to speak. If he is willing, he’ll reach out. I’ll tell him, Chris, I apologize to you. My conduct was unacceptable, and I’m here when you’re ready to speak. I want to apologize to Chris’s mother. I watched an interview she did. It was a fact I didn’t think about. I was not thinking about how many people were hurt at the time. I want an apology to Chris’s mother. I’d like to apologize to Chris’s family and specifically Tony Rock. We had a wonderful relationship. Tony Rock was my man. This was likely to be irreparable. I’ve spent the last three months thinking about and understanding the nuances and intricacy of what transpired at the moment. I’m not going to decipher all of it at this moment I am able to tell you all that there’s not a single part of me who believes it was the correct approach to take at the moment. I have no part of me thinks that’s the right method to deal with a sense of insult or disrespect.”
